Thanks to Gerber for bringing back this classic! October 11, 2008 harry44callahan (Columbus, OH) This is the quintessential vietnam-era fighting knife. Thanks to Gerber for putting it back on the market, as it had been dicountinued for several years...and the prices for new-in-box and used ones alike on e-bay was well over 150.00 and up. This opportunity allows you to aquire one of these knives at a bargain price (considering what they were going for on e-bay)and new from the manufacturer. My only complaint is the nylon scabbard...I'd have preferred the traditinal leather type, but I'll not complain much. I'm just happy to have found them back on the market...and Gerber may decide to stop production again - who knows? The blade serrations are only a distraction to make it fit the "survival knife" niche, because this is a purely a fighting knife to carry into combat/use for self-defense; you'll not be prying open 55 gallon drums with this one, like some Cold Steel offerings, but it is what it is: a Gerber MKII! A true classic.
Gerber Mark II Still going Strong September 19, 2008 William S. Lloyd (USA) I just received my Mark II from Big Edge Sports and I have to say I am fully impressed. I own a vintage 1973 MkII and except for the black coated blade there is virtually no difference. I have always loved this particular knife and I am glad to see demand for it has brought it back once again. Don't let the serrations fool you into thinking this is a survival knife, it is not. The MKII is strictly a fighting knife so don't try to use it for other RAMBO-LIKE 'survival' purposes or you may end up disappointed. If you have or have never owned one before I urge you to grab one now, especially at these prices. -Will-
NEW Gerber mark II July 29, 2008 Cochise (Arizona) I just recieved the NEW Gerber mark II knife I purchased from a amazon seller.. The knife is perfect for it's intended use.."fighting" whether it be self defense or otherwise this knife will be more than enough to get the job done..some will bemoan the 440hc as a lesser steel, it's not a camp knife...nor is it a chopper type survival knife..it only has to stay sharp from one encounter to the next.. The sheath is molle strapped on the back and comes with a leg strap tiedown with a fastex style buckle.. So if your life may someday ride on the quality of your fighting knife this mark II is a strong contender ..and has been for decades.. i retired my older mark II today , the NEW mark II is now woven into my kit..
