Is it worth it? June 5, 2008 Jeffery Jones (Mocksville NC) After being shown the operation of this piece of equipment, I had to have one. This is a very sweet piece of equipment. However, is it worth it?
Do you realise that a good heavy duty paper cutter will do the same thing. Granted a regular paper cutter will not "rip" a shingle long way but that is why they make knives for, its faster just to take your knive and cut it.
Some manufacturers still make all metal units that are aroung $20.00. The blades do go dull but no faster than this unit does and at 1 tenth the price you could by 10 for this one.
Now during cold days when the shingles are cold, this cutter by far is superior to paper cutters in that you can realy put some preasure on it and never have to worry about breaking it.
Use your best judgment, but I would buy another if I had to.
Two thumbs up! March 12, 2007 K. Chambers (San Jose, CA) Wish I had a shingle cutter like this years ago. Time saved making quick accurate cuts pays for this cutter in no time flat. I build gazebos and nearly every shingle requires a miter cut. The easily adjustable miter fence makes cutting any angle a breeze. After more than a thousand cuts on dimensional asphalt shingles there seems to be no appreciable wear on the blade and it still cuts like new. One word of caution, however. The cutting action requires a somewhat forceful chomp of the cutting arm. While the blade is not particularly sharp (much like a paper cutter), keep your fingers well away from the blade during the cutting action. There is no finger guard, thus the slightly lower rating. This machine performs well but needs to be respected for safe operation.
Shingle Shark cutter January 16, 2007 William R. Bingham (Santa Cruz, Ca USA) Great for cutting shingles on the roof, especially since I'm doing a hip roof and each row is angled on both ends. It's well worth the price, no jagged cuts like with a knife, quick and easy for us older do-it-your-selfer's.
Great October 13, 2005 M. Hill (Illinois) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We loved the Shingle Shark! It was so much better than cutting the shingles by hand! - We shingled our roof soooo much faster when we got the shark!
