3 out of 5 stars Lesser of Miter Box Evils   December 1, 2008
KellyGuitar.com (Minneapolis, MN USA)
Not a great product, but unfortunately not many good alternatives available for hand miter boxes. I found that the accuracy was good for light duty cutting at standard angles. The down sides were that the fence is only 1 5/8 inches high, light duty die cast base construction, fence thickness is thin (not too durable), and the blade did not seem all that sharp out of the box. Although there are many positive angle stop positions, there is no means provided for clamping the saw for non-standard angles which is needed when walls are not exactly 90 degrees or other custom cutting.

4 out of 5 stars Blades ARE Available!   September 9, 2008

First...this is a tolerable saw. The cuts in typical molding (pine, birch, maple) are clean and accurate. There are preset cut angles that you must use (no moving it 1 degree). If you need a saw that can cut compound angles, this is not it. What this tool can do is give you much better and more accurate cuts than a cheapie miter box. With any saw, you need a sharp blade and finding a Stanley blade is impossible. Lee Valley stocks 22" blades in 12tpi, 18tpi, 24tpi and 32tpi. You can find them online www.leevalley.com or you can call them at (800) 513-7885. They also sell more expensive miter boxes if you wish to explore that idea. This Stanley miter unit works fine for me as long as I keep a good blade in it.

4 out of 5 stars Works Well. Can only find replacement blades online.   June 25, 2008

I live in an apartment and wanted a mitre saw for the occasional jobs. Since a power tool would make to much noise for my neighbors I looked at the manual versions and decided to buy this model from Stanley. I found it easy to setup and it has worked well for my needs. I've used it on multiple projects and the blade is still sharp. I've only used it for cutting wood and PVC. I've also thought this tool would work great for cutting metal but Stanley does not have a hacksaw blade for it and I don't want to risk dulling the blade I do have.

In regards to the replacement blades I noticed that all the stores I've been to do not carry any and I was only able to find them online either at Stanley's website or other online retailers.

I fastened this Mitre Box to my workbench and have done a lot of baseboard work and other projects with it with very good results. It took a little work, both I've found replacement blades (Part# 20-809) on the Stanley website. Here's the link: [...]

It sounds like a few people had trouble finding replacement blades.
They cost about $[...], but last a while.
