Nice saw for the money May 28, 2007 D. J. (Iowa) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I guess I'm more a Western saw person in that I like a push saw because the sawdust doesn't interfere with the marking gauge line. I'm getting used to this one which is incredibly sharp and cuts very well and gives a nice thin kerf. It's not a high dollar saw but certainly works as well as one that a friend owns. It's slightly short but for joinery, it's plenty long enough. The handle is plastic and has a turn knob to exchange blades. However, it doesn't do any good because the packaging was all Japanese and you don't have any idea how to get a new blade. Fortunately, they are inexpensive enough that I'll probably get a new one to wait in the wings. So far, I've made about 10-15 hardwood dovetail boxes with it and haven't lost a tooth or seen any dulling yet.
Edit as of a couple months after purchase : I keep track and have now cut dovetails on 24 boxes with this saw and I have no desire for anything else. I've used it on several hardwoods of different thicknesses and haven't lost a tooth yet. I'm very pleased at how it hasn't lost any sharpness from the day I got it. One of those rare cases where inexpense isn't a comprimise.
