| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Of all the commonly used sharpening methods, waterstones are generally considered to give the best results. Norton stones are considered tops for performance compared to all other waterstones on the market, both manmade or natural. Using water as the lubricant, waterstones develop a fast cutting slurry. Because of the softness of the material, waterstones do wear concave with use & require periodic re-flattening. We recommend Norton's flattening & prep stones for flattening & conditioning of waterstones.

| Customer Reviews:
good quality and function January 9, 2008 Jackdaw I have used a Norton carborundum oil stone for 30 years to sharpen tools and kitchen knives. This was the first water stone I have used and I have been very pleased with the results. It is a good size for large (8" chef's knives) knives and cuts fast and cleans up easily. I also bought a lapping stone to flatten the water stone (water stones wear faster than oil stones), but I hven't used it yet. The stone I bought was a combination with 1000x and something finer, but I don't see any combo stones on the Amazon site.
