So far, so good July 18, 2008 David B. Main (Glen Ellyn, IL United States) I replaced all my plastic blast gates with these, and now my dust collection system works beautifully. The slides on the plastic gates get obstructed with wood chips and debris. When they can't close all the way, the entire system is compromised. Paying more for these gates is definitely worth it.
Leaks, short throat May 21, 2007 Robin K 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These are more durable then the plastic ones for sure. But they leak around the edges and the closing plate bounces around and does not really shut until backpressure builds up. Also the closing plate, if unit is mounted vertically, will close by itself due to gravity. The locking screw is a pain when you want to quickly close and open gates. Seems like it would not have been too much trouble to add the $.02 worth of gasket to properly seal the unit and give the closing plate some friction so it doesnt close by itself. The attachment throats are very short making it difficult to clamp to hose or pipe. Silicon caulk is the only way to attach it to solid pipe.
blast gates December 1, 2004 Robert J. Osborne (yarmouth ma.usa) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The aluminum blast gates are just great.A little bit on the expensive side but worth the money.I'll just keep on buying two every other month.
Better than plastic June 11, 2004 James N. Holm (Gladwin, Mi. United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have now traded all my plastic blastgates for aluminum. They cost a bit more, but are worth it. They don't clog as easily, and if they do, are easier to clean. The setscrew helps to keep it open or closed. Don't waste your money on plastic blastgates.
