Great Book , Great Authors April 29, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Taunton puts out great books with great authors, this book is no different. Great layout and information. I can't add much to what was already stated in the earlier reviews except that Kim Carleton Graves was easy to contact through email. He responded quickly, professionally and was very informative. In summary, buy the book you wont be disappointed.
Everything I Expected, and More! November 14, 2002 John R. Bradford (Jensen Beach, FL) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this book looking for a design I could use for a dining room table. What I found was not only a design that I loved, but clear step-by-step instructions, drawings, and great photographs. The section on table building basics which covers table size and clearance, wood movement, and torsion box construction was extremely informative.
Interesting and versatile designs October 9, 2002 Stan Farber (Lake Arrowhead, CA USA) 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am an amateur wood worker, recently retired to the mountains from the music business in Los Angeles, so I was looking for interesting projects. This book is perfect for challenging my skills and tweaking my learning curve. I am currently building the boat shaped pedestal table, but modifying it by making it smaller by 3/4 and taller by 9". It will be used as an altar in a contemporary worship service (in the round) for my former church in No. Hollywood CA.The book's instructions and ideas are very easy to follow, my only problem has been refiguring the compound angles in the pedestal due to my modifications. The illustrations and layout diagrams are first rate. Thanks to the author Kim Graves for a most enjoyable read.
Dining Tables - an excellent choice May 30, 2002 Dennis E. Peacock (Conway, AR United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Tables...design, techniques, joinery, finishes....it is all covered in this book. I have looked for a book on tables for a long time and I finally found this one by Kim Carleton Graves. If you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced woodworker, you will learn something from this excellent book. This book is clear, concise and to the point for all skill levels. Even if you are just wanting to learn something about tables, this is still the book to buy. I very highly recommend it to anyone interested in designing, building or learning about tables. You won't be sorry you bought this book!!!!
Awsome book for anyone even considering a table project! May 3, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Hi, I love this book. As usual, it is difficult to go wrong w/ the newer Taunton books and this is another winner. Fresh designs, great photographs, lots of details to assist a woodworker in making a showpiece of a dining table. It breaks otherwise intimidating designs into easy steps. While the focus is dining, I can see some of these designs being used in other types of table. The author is also on the Fine woodworking web site from time to time and was quick to answer my questions and discuss my project, This is a neat thing! Definitely a keeper!
